Brief Curriculum Vitae

Dimiter Syrakov, MSc in Physics in 1968 (University of Sofia), PhD in physics in 1972 (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Doctor of Sciences in 1990. Main scientific activities are in the field of Atmospheric Turbulence and Atmospheric Diffusion, in Air Pollution modelling and Atmospheric Boundary Layer modelling. He is a leader of the group creating Bulgarian Emergency Response System in case of nuclear accident and several versions of Bulgarian Chemical Weather Forecast and Information Systems. He used to be seriousely involved in Weather Modification problems, mainly Hail Protection activities in Bulgaria, developing a computerized decission supprt system for the operations of cloud seeding. He has co–authored more than 100 scientific papers (H index 13) published in leading refereed journals in this area.
He started his scientific carrier in the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics with Sofia University teaching Dynamic and Synoptic Meteorology, Climatology and Numerical Weather Prediction. After 20 years of experience, since 2001 he is senior researcher in the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) with Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He retired in 2011 but still continue his scientific activity in NIMH and in the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography.
In the moment he is chairman of the Scientific Council of NIMH.
